Considering polycarbonate’s distinctive characteristics, Monte Meão established a partnership with a prestigious manufacturer nearly 15 years ago to develop its application in railway seats.
To meet the strictest safety requirements set by international standards, polycarbonate is:
Scratch and Impact Resistant
Chemical Resistant
Lightness
HL3 Compliant
In addition, this material is also highly resistant to graffiti, cleaning agents, and UV radiation. These properties significantly enhance its durability and make it a superior choice over traditional polyester production by HLU.
Using polycarbonate in seat production offers several advantages, including dimensional freedom on both sides of the pieces (front and back), dimensional stability and precision, and the ability to develop standardized and modular components.
Moreover, this approach allows effective reuse of the material, contributing to a complete circular economy. As a result, Monte Meão’s operations have expanded to serve the Metros of Naples, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and others, with over 40,000 seats currently in operation.
Alstom recently unveiled its latest generation of trains, consisting of 50 new units, for Barcelona metro lines 1 and 3.
Monte Meão designed the seats using high-grade polycarbonate. The technology uses mass tinted materials in the process, making it possible to achieve the desired color without any additional painting stages. This eliminates a step and ensures the product’s recyclability.
Monte Meão has completed the supply of seats for 30 new Inneo metros manufactured by CAF for Amsterdam’s M7 series fleet.
The backrest and seat shells have an embossed description of the names of Amsterdam’s metro stations.
These seats are available in a array of possibilities, including a five places longitudinal, single transversal and folding seats.
